Extrusion Expertise

Ansamed have been supplying extruded tubing to the medical device industry for over 17 years.

We produce our extrusions from a range of different size extrusion machines ensuring the optimal balance of cost, speed and accuracy. All of our extrusion operations are carried out in a Class 100,000 cleanroom.

Using state of the art extrusion equipment, we provide tight tolerances, particularly on small microbore tubing for cardiology applications (balloon and multilayer guidewire tubing).

Our automatic closed loop feedback systems allow us to maintain constant melt pressure to minimise process variation. Further closed loop feedback systems linking on line laser gauge outer diameter measuring systems instruct the equipment pulling the tubing to speed up or slow down to ensure the tubing remains comfortably within specification.

All key measurement equipment have been assessed for gauge measurement accuracy and repeatability. In line Ultrasonic wall thickness measurement equipment is capable of measuring on line multilayers from 0.00004”(.001 mm) as well as OD, ID, concentricity and ovality.

As many medical device manufacturing companies operate to 6 sigma process capability levels it is reasonable to expect your extrusion partner to do the same. Ansamed use proven gauges, continuously measuring outer diameter, wall thickness and individual layers. Measurement data is gathered over the duration of the run and used to generate statistical information in the form of process capability data. Process capability data (outer diameter) is available for every production order, providing confidence in product quality over the entire production run. All orders are reviewed for process capability with a target Cpk value of 1.5 required for cardiology products and Cpk 1.33 for all others.

Typical material families processed by Ansamed are:

  • Nylons
  • Pebax
  • Polyethylenes
  • Fluropolymers (FEP)
